What Inspired Me to Start My Own Business
I grew up in Hong Kong: fast, corporate, and intensely material. Buildings there produce around 90% of the country’s carbon emissions, green space is limited, and global chains dominate the streets.
In 2018, I began a solo backpacking journey across more than 20 countries, from the Sahara to Siberia, Mongolia, Southeast Asia and the Himalayas. Along the way, I saw a different way to live. People with less often seemed happier: stronger community, more joy, and a closer connection to nature. In many places local culture and small businesses thrived.
Seeing both developed and less developed countries inspired me to work in sustainability — to help bring some of what I saw in those communities into the developed world.
For the past eight years, I’ve worked as a sustainability consultant, helping organisations reduce their impact, protect nature, and support a fairer, greener future.
